VAS Africa Conference Set for July

A new conference designed to act as a forum for VAS (value added services)  issues in Africa, VAS Africa will take place from 5 – 6 July in Johannesburg.

Organised by Informa Telecoms & Media, VAS Africa launches on the back of strong VAS growth in the region. Informa Telecoms & Media estimates the mobile VAS market in Africa will grow at an annual compound growth rate of around 22 per cent, to generate revenues of over $11.5bn (£7bn) by 2014.

Informa Telecoms & Media also stages the Com World Series and AfricaCom events, and VAS Africa will feature a business-focused conference, a product showcase exhibition, and networking opportunities.

“We are pleased to have received the support of the most influential names in the market,” says Julie Rey, conference director Informa Telecoms & Media. “The continents major operators will share their VAS innovation strategies at the conference – MTN, Airtel, Orange, Vodacom, Etisalat and others – and the vendor community is participating too, with Comviva, Huawei, Ericsson, Giesecke & Devrient and DSG sponsoring the event.”

The conference will include keynote presentations and panel discussions covering issues including innovation strategies, managing VAS cost-effectively, understanding the mobile entertainment ecosystem, messaging and social networking, mobile marketing, mCommerce, and mobile finances, according to the organisers.

Registration is free to African operators in order to “facilitate their participation”, say the organisers.

VAS Africa will be held at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg.  To register, head for the Com World Series website
