Visitors to this year’s V Festival taking place this weekend will get an exclusive sneak preview of Virgin Mobile’s brand new mobile music download site, Virgin Media Music Store. The site, powered by IMImobile’s DaVinci Music platform, will have over a million tracks available to download from tomorrow, with a growing catalogue to be added in the coming months.
V Festival-goers will be given a sneak preview and the chance to try out the service first. Visitors can sign up for a free one month trial by texting a secret number which will be promoted at various locations throughout both V Festival sites. In addition, music fans heading to the Virgin Media Mansion to take advantage of free wi-fi will be able to turn on Bluetooth to receive more information on how to sign up, with a direct link to the offer.
As part of the free trial, subscribers will receive five free tracks of their choice and have the option to continue the service for £4 per month – the equivalent of 80p per track. Existing Virgin Media mobile customers will be able to sign up for £3 for five tracks a month.
Downloaded tracks can be transferred directly to a computer to be played on the customer’s favourite music player, giving more flexibility to move music from device to device. The Virgin Media Music Store will be open to everyone from 1 September, at which point the service will be available on a month-by-month basis.
“This is a key milestone in our mobile entertainment strategy, and anyone with a mobile can take advantage of this new service to access great new music in an instant,” says Jonathan Kini, director of mobile at Virgin Media. “IMImobile was the natural choice to enable this service for Virgin Media, as they provide end-to-end managed music services, powered by a very flexible technology platform, and have a long standing pedigree within the digital music space.”
IMImobile Europe’s Anu Shah adds: “Operators want to deliver a connected entertainment experience across their services, and IMImobile’s DaVinci product suite gives operators the freedom to seamlessly extend their music services into other content, entertainment and social networking services. Our managed service model frees up operators to focus on the customer experience, leaving us to focus on rapid deployment and technical innovation.”
