Visa Asks Shoppers to Swipe Right in Mobile Checkout

Visa has introduced a swipe button for mobile payments in Visa Checkout.

The dynamic button enables shoppers to complete purchases by swiping right and entering their password, intended to streamline the payment experience.

Pizza Hut has been testing the button, and reports that customers were roughly twice as likely to click through and pay with this button compared to the original Visa Checkout lightbox experience, first introduced in 2014. Other brands running trials include Virgin America and ticket website Fandango, both of which report a 30 per cent increase in click-throughs with the button.

“Visa Checkout’s new interactive button is yet another way we are designing the future of online checkout and delivering on our promise to bring the simplicity of the swipe to any device,” said Sam Shrauger, SVP digital solutions at Visa. “This new experience brings digital payments one step closer to the ease, trust and familiarity that consumers have long valued from Visa in the physical world.”

The swipe button is initially available to merchants selling digital goods and services , or physical items for pick-up, with support for merchants who ship goods due in the coming months.
