Vodafone Brings 4G to Spain

Vodafone has become the first operator to offer 4G in Spain.

The 4G network is launching in seven cities today – Barcelona, Bilbao, Madrid, Malaga, Palma de Mallorca, Seville and Valencia.

Initially, the 4G service will operate on the 1800 and 2600 MHz frequencies. Vodafone is awaiting the release of the 800 MHz spectrum, which it says will help accelerate it deployment and improve coverage inside buildings.

The high-speed connectivity will be available to existing RED3 subscribers as part of their package, and to all other customers for a premium of €9 (£7.50) per month.

Theres no indication whether this will reflect the pricing of Vodafones 4G services when they launch in the UK later this year – but its certainly a very different set-up to what EE, as the UKs only 4G operator, is currently offering.
