British telecoms company Vodafone has introduced a SIM-only mobile offering dedicated to young people and the way that they use their mobile phones.
The VOXI SIM enables people aged 25 and under to use selected social and chat apps without affecting their data allowance. These apps include Facebook, Facebook Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp, Pinterest, Snapchat, Twitter, and Viber. On top of that, young people with the SIM get unlimited calls and texts, freedom to use their phone in 50 destinations across Europe, and there’s no contract.
“Why should young people make do with the same mobile plans as everyone else, when they use their phones differently and often can’t access the best deals? We’ve worked with hundreds of people aged 25 and under, and have really listened to them,” said Dan Lambrou, head of VOXI. “They are a generation that’s tired of being stereotyped and talked at. We created VOXI, a transparent new mobile service that gives our audience a platform to connect to the things that matter to them, whatever they’re into.”
VOXI 30-day 4G plans include £10 for 2GB data, £15 for 5GB data and £20 for 15GB data. As long as there is still data left on the selected plan, VOXI SIM owners can enjoy unlimited use of the aforementioned social and chat apps. If running low on data, a 1GB addon cost £3.
The VOXI SIM will be available from 8 September and existing Vodaphone customers can use the SIM in their current phones. Vodafone says it will also soon be adding passes for video and music streaming apps that will also offer unlimited access to these apps without using data.
As part of its promotion of the offering, Vodafone is working with young artists, filmmakers and designers from across the UK to market the SIM. Furthermore, it has partnered with Anthony Joshua MBE, unified world heavyweight boxing champion; Sharmadean Reid MBE, entrepreneur and founder of WAH Nails; and Snoochie Shy, DJ, presenter and model, to offer series of masterclasses and workshops where they share their stories.
