Vodafone Readies Operator Android Market Billing

Vodafone has announced that it is to rollout operator billing for Android Markets. Consumers will be able to download paid-for apps without entering credit card details – the cost of the app will be added to the customers mobile phone bill.

The move will first rollout in the UK and Germany, and will be initially made available to customers who bought their phone in Vodafones retail and online store.

“This evolution in Android app payment greatly improves the users purchase experience and consequently their likelihood of completing a sale,” says Vodafone in a statement. “In addition to facilitating the best possible user experience, Vodafone operator billing extends developers reach to the large number of app buying customers who are unwilling or unable to use credit cards. In some countries this can be more than 90 per cent of the market.”

Details are sketchy at the moment, but well bring you information on rollout dates and availability in other markets as soon as we hear it.
