Volantis Systems has released the latest version of the Volantis Storefront mobile commerce product, which now connects subscribers directly with Facebook using Facebook Platform.
Through Volantis Storefront, mobile operators can enable their subscribers to tap directly into the resources that Facebook provides, enabling users to recommend mobile content, such as music, mobile games and ringtones, to their friends through their profiles. Then, says Volantis, the operator will be in a position to sell the mobile content to everyone, and attract new users to their social marketplace.
Social networks are becoming the first stop for people who want to talk about media experiences, says Aleksey Lobanov, Senior Project Manager at VimpelCom. Were excited Volantis is providing an easy and effective way for us to extend our mobile portal content and services across these communities. This solution will convert activity into revenue.
Traditionally, says Volantis, mobile operators have had difficulty taking advantage of viral promotion and distribution, while retaining control over their content and services. Volantis Storefront version 2.7 allows content providers to fully leverage the distribution capability and reach of social networking by converting static storefronts into dynamic, rich community-based experiences. Subscribers can see friends content, recommend their own, purchase, dedicate, save favorites and create wish lists.
Volantis Storefront also offers a seamless experience between the wired online world and the mobile web, the company says. Any content bought online can be used on the phone, while any content bought on the phone can also be shared online. This is because Volantis Storefront uses a centralized content management system and can be configured to use multiple delivery channels, including mobile and PC browsers, SMS, MMS, Wap Push, IVR, iTV and on-device applications. This content can employ transcoding and content protection through forward lock or combined delivery DRM.
Using a combination of menu management options and promotional tools, content can be made available to the consumer at an appropriate time, site position and optimized for their devices. The Volantis device database covers over 5,500 devices.
Facebook Platform provides a new channel for customer acquisition, increased content sales and increased average revenue per user, says Volantis CEO, Mark Watson. Were continuing to add more Facebook integration to the Volantis Content Delivery Platform so that, in addition to core functions such as content ingestion, adaptation and delivery, it can provide a complete integrated platform for campaign management and advertising delivery, across both fixed and mobile channels, and also link the social networking channel with email, mobile messaging, on device portals and mobile browsing.
Volantis Storefront is a core component of the Volantis Content Delivery Platform. It enables the end-to-end management of an entire mobile portal, from content management and publishing, through to the purchase of premium downloadable content and subscriptions to services. With built-in personalization capabilities, content can be targeted and promoted based on user preferences and behaviours.
These capabilities, combined with Volantis Buzzcast for content feed management and integration with ODP client, Volantis Broker for third party content aggregation, and Volantis Transcoder for automated web transcoding, allow the Volantis Content Delivery Platform to offer a wide variety of compelling content and services.
Volantis Storefront is currently used by both operator customers such as MTN, VimpelCom, Turkcell, AT&T & Hutchison 3G and content providers such as World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and FT.com to market, deliver and sell many different kinds of content to the largest possible range of customer handsets.
