MasterCard has partnered with restaurant chain Wagamama to launch its Qkr! app with MasterPass, enabling customers to pay their bill as and when they are ready via an app on their phone.
Wagamama is the first restaurant or retailer to offer the new solution, which has gone through extensive testing to ensure customers can make fast, secure and convenient payments whether they are on their own or in a group.
Customers who have downloaded the app, which works in Wagamama's 112 branches across the UK, have the option of splitting the bill and can pay at any point during the meal, using any type of credit or debit card.
"MasterCard is always striving to improve payment convenience and choice for consumers," said Scott Abrahams, group head of acceptance and emerging payments at MasterCard UK&I. "Working with and listening to businesses like Wagamama helps us design new secure payment options for consumers which meet the needs of their changing lifestyles.
"The benefits of this app aren't exclusive or unique to Wagamama's customers and we are working with multiple restaurants and retailers so they can offer this payment option to their customers too."
"We know that the biggest area of feedback from restaurant customers is related to the speed and convenience of payment," said Richard Tallboy, director of business development at Wagamama. "The Qkr! with MasterPass payment app provides us with a great solution, allowing customers to control when they want to pay through a simple and secure download app.
"Whether they are having a quick bite at lunchtime and need to get back to work or are having dinner before a show, putting them in control of paying when they are ready makes for a more relaxing dining experience."
