The Black Friday sale season is an interesting time for retailers. On one hand, it's a great opportunity to drive increased footfall but, on the other hand, that increase that lead to a bad customer experience – and negative press, if things get really out of hand.
In an attempt to tackle the latter problem, and extend out the sales opportunity across the month, Walmart has launched its first Black Friday deals – more than two weeks before the big day, and exclusively available in its app.
The deals available in-app range from electronics (including a Hitachi 65" 4K HDTV for $599, a $400 discount) to jewellery (1K diamond silver pendant and earrings for $139, down $361) and even a 7' trampoline, discounted to $79.
The rest of the deals will launch for desktop customers on 00:01 on Thanksgiving – Thursday 24 November, the day before Black Friday – and at 18:00 the same day in stores.
The exclusive deals aren't the only way Walmart's app is figuring into its Black Friday plans. Shoppers can access a store map highlighting the locations of popular deals in-app starting 17 November.
