Warner Bros. partners with HTC Vive for VR Steven Spielberg movie promotion

US film studio Warner Bros. has teamed up with HTC Vive to use VR to promote the release of Steven Spielberg’s new movie, Ready Player One, penned for global release 30 March 2018.

The partnership will see Vive produce VR content tied to the world displayed in the feature length movie. The content will be distributed globally across all VR in-home platforms through Viveport. Vive also says it has plans to bring the content to its Viveport arcade platform, as well as showcasing the VR experiences ‘at many of the biggest global consumer events through the year’.

“Were delighted that HTC Vive will be partnering with Ready Player One and very excited to work with them leading up the movies release in Spring 2018,” said Blair Rich, president of worldwide marketing at Warner Bros..

Ready Player One, adapted from Ernest Cline’s 2011 book of the same name, is set in a dystopian future where people turn to a VR simulator to escape the real world – and in the hope of inheriting its creator’s entire fortune.

Rikard Steiber, president at Viveport, said: “Ready Player One… has tremendous potential to engage and entertain the worldwide market, showcasing the transformative nature of VR, and what it can and will be.”
