Internet speed is now the top differentiator for consumers when choosing a mobile network operator, according to a survey of 31,000 people worldwide by Accenture, but 47 per cent in the UK would not be willing to pay any more for it.
Speed was cited as important by 97 per cent of people in the 27 countries surveyed for the Mobile Web Watch, followed closely by quality of the connection, coverage, data cost and then customer service.
In emerging markets, where 2G is more likely to be the norm, 76 per cent are willing to pay more for a faster service, but in developed markets that number falls to 57 per cent.
The countries surveyed were: Austria, the Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, South Korea, the Netherlands, Slovakia, and Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the UK, the US, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, China, India, Mexico, Russia, South Africa, and Turkey.
