WeChat Introduces Ad Platform for 400m-strong Messaging App

WeChat has launched a self-service advertising platform for its Weixin messaging app in China, which reported 396m monthly active users in Q1.
Currently in beta, the ad platform has been opened up to holders of official accounts with at least 100,000 followers.
The ads in question take the form of a static image and text link, which appears at the bottom of the screen when users access posts from brands they are following. The ads can be targeted by gender, age, and region.
