WhatsApp down for users around the world

WhatsApp is suffering an outage in many parts of the world, including the UK. DownDetector, which monitors the status of services from mobile and broadband networks to social media platforms, first reported problems with the service at around 8am UK time this morning. As of a few moments ago, WhatsApp’s own Twitter account makes no mention of the issue or gives any indication when things might be back to normal. The WhatsApp blog is similarly silent on the matter, its most recent post dated 9 August 2022.
Update:
As of a few minutes ago (9.50am UK time), WhatsApp seems to be up and running again, certainly in the UK at least.
