‘Where There’s Water’: WaterAid launches 2024 appeal

WaterAid has launched its 2024 Christmas appeal, ‘Where there’s water’.

Featuring a rural community choir, the charity collaborated with Kenyan production company Ginger Ink and worked closely with the local community to ensure the content’s accuracy.

The appeal highlights two children, one with access to clean water and one without. The child lacking water cannot participate in the community’s local choir because they need to collect water for their family.

This comes as, according to the charity, one in 10 people worldwide lack access to clean water. Consequently, people, often women and girls, collect water from local rivers, which can contain diseases like cholera and typhoid.

WaterAid film producer David Jobanputra said: “As an anthropologist, having the opportunity to make our winter campaign film in such a symbiotic way was inspirational.

“Our film reflects a real collaborative process with the community, and by harmoniously working together, we’ve created a film that is accurate and engaging.

“The choir’s dream is for their music to be heard far and wide so that people everywhere can see the beauty and joy that comes from having clean water.”
