nebimobi boxWi-fi powered mobile company Nebi.Mobi are seeking crowdfunding to produce a mobile that does not rely on cellular networks for calls.

Pointing to the rising cost of mobile price plans, and a lack of differentiation in the cellular provider market, Nebi.Mobi are attempting to fund a smartphone that uses open wi-fi networks and its own hotspots to support call, text and mobile web services.

The company has launched an Indiegogo campaign which aims to raise $50,000 (£30,000) to fund the manufacture of its EVE 008 smartphone and the services it hopes to provide, with the raised money decreasing the cost of both the platform and device selections for consumers. Funds will also be used to secure bandwidth for users and to expand the companys free public wi-fi coverage areas.

“Cellular providers are continually telling us that they have the best plans for us,” wrote Nebi Cem Erdogan, the projects leader, on the Indiegogo page. “The plans are new and improved to give us just what we need…at an excessive cost. The latest smartphone has the most amazing new features…but they arent innovative at all. Nebi.Mobi is the most cost-effective, innovative service and smartphone to ever hit the market.”
