Alcatel-Lucent has launched lightRadio Wi-fi, a technology that aims to make it simpler for consumers to access the internet over secure wi-fi connections on smartphones and Tablets.

lightRadio Wi-fi integrates wi-fi directly into small-cell base stations and cellular networks. The software enables identification of users, to connect them a trusted network automatically and manages the transition between Wi-Fi and cellular networks.

“With lightRadio Wi-fi, Alcatel-Lucent gives service providers new options to meet consumers’ fast-growing broadband requirements,” says Wim Sweldens, President of Alcatel-Lucent’s wireless division. “Extending our ground-breaking lightRadio portfolio, service providers will be able to build closer relationships with their customers by delivering seamless high-speed broadband connections, wherever they are, using LTE and Wi-Fi networks.
