Mobile solutions provider WIN has bought UK-based mobile data services development specialist, Cumulus Technology. Cumulus, which will be renamed WIN Interactive Ltd., will enhance the companys capability in the development of advanced mobile multimedia and interactive services, particularly 3G video streaming and next-generation mobile content delivery.
Cumulus was established in 2003 to exploit new technology in emerging mobile markets. To date, the company has developed an impressive portfolio of products to take advantage of the capabilities that todays mobile infrastructure and handsets can support. The company is profitable and has a strong client base in the telecoms and media industry.
The Cumulus product portfolio will complement WINs existing proprietary messaging, billing and content delivery platform. Cumulus service offering includes Tornado, a next-generation interactive chat and contact solution; Jetstream, a fully deployed advanced 3G video streaming and calling platform, enabling video content portals, mobile TV over IP and video messaging through five-digit shortcodes; and Vortex, an advanced multimedia content management and delivery platform, including handset transcoding and DRM capabilities, already in use with several major brands.
The agreement amounts to an initial consideration of 2 million, with further instalments depending on the companys profitability in 2007 and 2008. WIN sees the acquisition as an integral part of its continued strategy to introduce new value-added solutions to its client base of leading European mobile network operators, media companies, content providers, agencies and corporates. It also sees the move as a vital part of the companys continued expansion into new international markets.
