Windows Store Offers Operator Billing with Bango

[img_assist|nid=26318|title=|desc=|link=popup|align=left|width=190|height=189]Bango has launched its first deployment of operator billing on the Windows Phone platform, beginning in Indonesia, the largest smartphone population in South East Asia.

Users on the Indosat network, a subsidiary of Qtel, will be able to purchase digital content from the Windows Store with just one-click. While Indosat has 50m customers in the country, it is not clear how successful Windows Phone currently is; BlackBerry is the number one smartphone platform.

The deployment here is part of Bangos broader strategy to focus on fast-growth markets where credit card use is less prevalent. The company says that when its services are launched in emerging markets, purchases increase by up to 1000 per cent. More deployments of Bango’s operator billing on Windows Phone, along with “currently non-live partners”, are expected in the coming months.

Bango says that daily user spend for H1 2013 will be double that of the previous six months, thanks to existing deployments on Blackberry, Google, Facebook and now Microsoft. It has also agreed to provide payment services to Amazon and Mozilla’s upcoming Marketplace. Todd Brix, GM of Windows Phone Store, added: “Mobile operator billing gives consumers a convenient payment option with significantly higher conversion rates than credit cards, greatly benefiting Windows Phone 8 customers and developers.”

Bango is currently working with 110 operators around the world, reaching some 1bn mobile subscibers.
