Yahoo! has acquired Astrid, the company behind the to-do list app which has been downloaded by over 4m people since it first launched in 2008.
Astrid enables users to create crossplatform lists and reminders, whether by typing or speaking, and share them with contacts. It also offers email management functionality.
For existing users, Astrid will continue to function as normal for the next 90 days, before presumably being shuttered to make way for Yahoo!s implementation of the technology. Users will be given the option to download their data from the service, and subscribers will be given refunds by Yahoo!
“We sought to help as many people as possible become happier, healthier and more productive,” said Astrid co-founder Jon Paris. “We’re really excited to join the mobile team and continue this work with Yahoo!’s goal of making the world’s daily habits more inspiring and entertaining.”
Its currently unknown how much Yahoo! paid for Astrid, and how it compares to the recent acquisition of mobile news startup Summly, which reportedly cost around $30m (£19m). One things for certain though – Yahoo! is determined to make a comeback, with a renewed emphasis on mobile, and its happy spending a whole bunch of money in the process.
