Yahoo Shopping Spree Continues with Polyvore

polyvore comboYahoo has picked up another startup, this time social shopping service Polyvore, which lets users make artistic collages of fashion products and provides them with links to purchase the items.

The service was founded by three former Yahoo employees, and the Jess Lee, CEO of the firm, has spoken publicly about how advice from Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer has helped shape her career.

Polyvore partners with over 350 retailers, enabling users to browse through their products in a Pinterest-style interface and put together outfits and wardrobes which can be shared with other users.

Yahoos statement on the acquisition suggests that the company will use Polyvores technology and relationship with retailers including Urban Outfitters and Saks Fifth Avenue to sell ads on Yahoos sites in addition to Polyvore.

“Polyvore has developed a destination where community-powered content is curated and actionable for shoppers,” said Simon Khalaf, senior vice president of product & engineering for publisher products at Yahoo. “We believe that bringing this type of community and commerce-driven experience to Yahoos industry-leading content will transform the user experience across our digital magazines and verticals.”

“Going forward, Polyvore will still be the same Polyvore you love, but well have more resources to make it even bigger and better,” said Lee. “Our mission of empowering people to feel good about their style will stay the same. Well continue to add cool new product features and roll out new perks for top members.

“Weve accomplished a lot on our own, but together with Yahoo we can take Polyvore to its fullest potential.”
