Yelp Adds Transactions to its Local Business Directory

Yelp has unveiled a mobile-ready commerce platform for its review and recommendation business.

The company’s desktop and mobile sites, as well as its apps, will now give users the opportunity to purchase directly from local business listings, along with showing them great places to go.

The platform will initially go live in the US starting with food delivery or pick-up from local takeaways and restaurants in New York, San Fran and Austin. Yelp will also add further business categories, like spas, yoga studios, salons and dentist appointments, with more promised in the future.

The company recently revealed that 36 per cent of impressions on its site in Q1 were from mobile devices, up more than 10 per cent on the previous quarter. During the period, the Yelp apps saw a monthly average of around 10m unique users, while its mobile site saw around 30m.
