The YOC Group has announced that the app it made for German TV channel ZDF reached 100,000 downloads in its first day of availability, and hit 500,000 downloads a few weeks later.
The app enables iOS and Android users to watch numerous videos from a ZDF Mediathek media library on their smartphones and tablet PCs, says YOC.
The app is was created using YOCs Smart Web App platform, which combines a native app with the mobile web. “Right after its launch, the YOC Smart Web App was the download winner of the day on the App Store. This is a great success, which shows that this product is perfectly in tune with the latest trends,” says Dirk Kraus, CEO of YOC AG.
The YOC Smart Web App uses the design elements and familiar interface systems of the handset on which it is installed, but is also a browser-based solution, which enables optimised delivery of content to all internet-enabled handset. The system is based on YOC subsidiary Sevenvals FIT technology.
The ZDF app offers mobile access to around 20,000 TV broadcasts, and users can watch the daily news shows heute-Sendung and heute-Journal live on their handsets.
ZDF editor-in-chief Peter Frey says: “We know that people, especially the younger generation, increasingly turn to mobile media and use conventional media less and less. The success of our mobile library shows once more how much communication has changed from the use of classic media channels to online and mobile.”
