YouTube Gaming Goes Head-to-head with Twitch

YouTube Gaming multichannelYouTube has launched YouTube Gaming, a video streaming site and app that enables gamers to share what theyre playing with a live audience.

If that sounds like a familiar proposition, its probably because of Twitch, which was acquired by Amazon for $970m last August and has been the undisputed champion of the game streaming market – until now.

Before Amazon snatched it up, Google was reportedly in late-stage talks to acquire Twitch, with plans to fold the service into YouTube.

The major point of differentiation for YouTube Gaming is its DVR Mode, which enables viewers to choose between watching live or rewinding up to four hours.

YouTube Gaming will go live online and on the Apple App Store and Google Play later today.
