YouTube is reportedly developing its own social network, known internally as Backstage.
According to VentureBeat, Backstage will enable users to share photos, text posts, links and, of course, videos in a newsfeed similar to Facebook and Twitter. All of this content will appear in the feeds of followers, and ping them with notifications.
The social platform will also add an option to share Backstage-only videos which will be exclusively available to followers, and the ability for fans to respond with rich replies, incorporating photos, video and other content.
Google refused to comment on the report, but VentureBeat claims Backstage will launch by the end of the year, possibly as soon as autumn, in a limited release with a selection of popular YouTubers.
