Youtube to Enable Offline Viewing

Youtube has revealed that its app users will soon be able to download videos to watch for a ‘short period’ when they are offline.

The company hasn’t revealed any more details, apart from that this will go live in November, but the service is being touted as a commuter favourite.

In the UK, it took the BBC a year to bring show downloads to Android devices after launching the service on its iPlayer iOS app in September 2012. Users get to keep episodes on their mobile device for up to 30 days, likewise with Sky’s Go Extra upgrade package, although this costs an additional £5 on top of an initial payment for Sky Go. ITV has yet to offer TV show downloads on its Player app.
