Zynga Launches Draw Something 2 – in Sweden

Zynga has launched Draw Something 2, the sequel to the hit social gaming app, on iOS – for the time being, exclusively in Sweden.

The original game was a hit after it launched in February 2012, receiving 50m downloads in 50 days, which led to Zynga acquiring developer OMGPOP just six weeks after the launch, for a reported $210m.

According to the games listing on the App Store, the launch is “an exclusive sneak peek for Sweden only – the first country to drive us to #1 in the App Store, one year ago”.

The sequel touts a range of new drawing tools, a gallery which can be shared with friends, safe mode parental controls, and 5,000 new words to be drawn and guessed.

The app isnt short on new features, then, but creating a sequel to Draw Something nevertheless feels, in some ways, like an odd prospect – after all, the app is almost as much of a social platform as it is a pure game.

The move does make a lot of sense from Zyngas perspective, though as it will be hoping to draw back the 13m active users who were playing the game at the height of its popularity – a number which has since inevitably dwindled – and recouping on the investment it made a year ago.
