Zynga sells Web3 project Sugartown to D20

Zynga has exited its web3 project, Sugartown, selling it to a newly established company called D20.

In a statement, posted on social media, the company stated: “This is an historical moment that has been in process for months. We are excited to explore a world of unlimited possibilities.

“It’s full steam ahead to create the future of rewarded play. We have the independence, autonomy, and ability to create products that scale all while delivering quality you expect from a top-tier game studio.

“Rewarded play on the cutting edge of innovation is our ONLY focus. Let us be the FIRST to reassure our holders that our execution will only get better from here. We have assembled a team of some of the top minds in Web2 and Web3 games and are more than ready to embark on this chapter.”

D20 was co-founded by Matt Wolf, formerly Zynga’s VP of web3 gaming, and Tommy Ngo, the ex-general manager for web3 at Zynga.

Zynga originally announced Sugartown in 2023 as its first title after embracing NFTs and appointing Wolf in 2021, before the company was acquired by Take-Two in January 2022.
