Apple has announced another App Store milestone – consumers have now downloaded over 15bn apps in the three years since it launched.
The company says its App Store has over 200m users, and now offers more than 425,000 apps. There are now over 100,000 native iPad apps.
“In just three years, the revolutionary App Store has grown to become the most exciting and successful software marketplace the world has ever seen,” says Philip Schiller, Apples senior vice president of worldwide product marketing. 
The news comes in the context of the Android Market gaining on the Apple App Store, at least in terms of the number of apps available. As we previously reported, market research firm research2guidance estimates that the Android Market will overtake the Apple App Store in terms of app numbers next month.
