Latin America Shows Massive Mobile Internet Growth

The Latin American market for mobile internet traffic has shown massive growth in the last year, according to a report by a mobile ad network in the region.

Hunt Mobile Ads has produced a study that shows a 156 per cent growth in mobile traffic in Latin America when comparing the first quarter of 2011 to the same period in 2010.

This kind of growth has been helped by mobile phone companies focusing their marketing strategies on encouraging users to replace their phones with smartphones – which, according to the report, have seen a 175 per cent growth in take-up in the last year.

BlackBerry handsets do particularly well in the region. According to Hunt Mobile Ads report, RIM has 32 per cent of the Latin American smartphone market, while Nokia has 26 per cent and Apple 12 per cent. In terms of country share, Mexico ranks No.1, with 42% per cent of data traffic, followed by Brazil with 27 per cent.
