Aspiros Scandinavian music Service WiMP added almost 1m new songs to its catalogue in October, bringing the number of songs available to users to more than 13m. The company points out that this is roughly equivalent to 74 years’ of continuous music, nearly enough to fill the entire life span of an average UK citizen. WiMP is available for Android and iOS in Norway, Sweden and Denmark, and in Portugal under a different trademark. Across these four countries, it has over 350,000 paying customers. Another 700,000 Norwegian Canal Digital customers are being offered the service as part of their TV subscription. WiMP is working with the networks Norwegian Idol talent show – we use the term loosely – which means that the songs sung by contestant are available on WiMP directly after each week’s show.
