Aspiro Music as revealed that its WiMP streaming service to mobiles has now attracted 300,000 paying subscribers, after rapid growth during the spring. The number of WiMP users has tripled since the start of the year.
“More people are discovering the benefits of our service, and in the last month we have seen particularly rapid growth in Norway via Canal Digital, but also in Sweden and Portugal,” says Aspiro CEO Gunnar Sellæg. “In Denmark, we are increasing our initiatives this summer to open even more Danish consumers’ eyes to music streaming.”
WIMP is currently available in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Portugal, the latter via a white-label service. It is due to launch in the autumn in Ireland, after Aspiro signed a letter of intent last week with one of Irelands largest operators to launch the service in the Irish market.“We are also negotiating with several additional partners for launch in more markets,” says Sellæg.
Separately, Aspiro’s Mobile Solutions division has signed a contract with Eniro, the Nordic directory and B2B services company. Aspiro will supply Eniro Norway and its product Telefonkatalogen Bedrift with gateway, messaging and billing services, with further services likely to be added in due course.
