Over 435,100 new iOS apps will launch during 2013, according to mobile analytics company adeven. Thats a 21 per cent growth on the 360,000 apps released into the App Store in 2012.
Last year, July was the slowest month, with the least apps (22,483), while November saw the most (39,313).
“We reviewed App Store results over the past five years and noticed a steady linear increase in the number of App Store apps,” said adeven CEO Christian Henschel. “Naturally, anything could happen to the industry, but we think these numbers are a fair prediction and an indication of the continued growth in the industry.”
According to adeven, the top-ranking app globally for 2012 was Wheres My Water?, and the top publisher was Gameloft.
In December, 64 per cent of all apps on the App Store were considered zombies – apps with no ranking or downloads – up from 60 per cent in June.
While many worthy apps struggle for recognition, a lot of this is down to the duplicate apps which still flood the market – such as the 586 flashlight apps which were released in 2012, despite the thousands of flashlight apps already available.
