88 of Top 100 Brands Have an iOS App, says Distimo

Distimo has released its Apple App Store Performance: The 2012 Top 100 Global Brands report, which compares a list of the top 100 brands, from Interbrand, with their presence in the US Apple App Store.

Of the top 100 brands, only 12 dont have an iOS app – that number is down from 18 in September 2011, meaning six brands have taken the leap in the last year.

In September 2012, the brand with the most apps available in the App Store, at a mighty 141, was Sony. Thats up from 90 a year earlier. Coming close behind was Disney, with 139 apps, with Samsung (117), MTV (72), and SAP (72) rounding out the top five.

The brand whose apps attracted the most downloads was Google – largely due to its Chrome and YouTube apps. YouTube was the single most downloaded app examined by the study. Whats particular impressive is that the app was only released on 11 September, meaning it received more downloads in 20 days than other brands apps did in the entire month.

Google is also one of just two companies which can claim a place in both the top five most valuable brands, according to Interbrand, and the top five brands by app downloads – the other is Apple.
