Bytemobile, which provides mobile Internet solutions for mobile network operators, and F5 Networks, which specializes in Application Delivery Networking have revealed that Bytemobile has enhanced its existing deployment at T-Mobile International.
with an F5 solution that provides scalable network capacity to serve the mobile content delivery needs of T-Mobile customers. In addition, Bytemobile and F5 have formed a partnership focused on delivering scalable and secure mobile Internet solutions to wireless network operators worldwide.
For T-Mobile International, which serves approximately 95 million subscribers across its European operating companies, Bytemobile has integrated the F5 VIPRION on-demand Application Delivery Controller with its Unison Mobile Internet Platform installed in the core data path of the network. The result, says Bytemobile, is increased network scalability, availability and performance for the delivery of value-added mobile data services to T-Mobile customers.
T-Mobile International indicated that it has experienced significant growth in data adoption and usage for both mobile broadband and mobile Internet applications. As a result, the volume and mix of its network traffic has changed dramatically over the last year. Bytemobile says that its Internet gateway, traffic control and optimization solutions, now combined with F5s Application Delivery Networking capabilities, have enabled T-Mobile to scale the capacity of its 3G network in line with consumer demand.
Under the terms of its global systems integration and reseller agreement with F5, Bytemobile integrates F5s BIG-IP and VIPRION solutions with other third-party system components, including server platforms, operating systems, switches, and application software, around the Unison software platform in its customers networks. Bytemobile says it selected F5 for its ability to deliver high availability and high throughput for complex applications in very large-scale networks, with traffic flowing through multiple data centres.
F5 says that the VIPRION system is architected to deliver the intelligence and performance needed to scale next-generation networks and applications, enabling wireless network operators to effectively handle explosive growth in data traffic. This complements Bytemobiles data reduction and service control capabilities, which enable operators to manage the impact of not only traffic growth but also changing traffic mix on existing network infrastructure, while maintaining high quality of service to subscribers.
The Apple iPhone, USB dongles, mobile video, and other factors have caused data traffic on Tier-1 networks to grow at rates of 10 to 15% per month, says Bytemobile Chief Marketing Officer, Adrian Hall. In some cases, 1% to 2% of users are consuming up to 50% of a networks traffic. Now more than ever, operators need to protect and extend their network assets, especially given the current global economic environment. They also need to minimize churn by delivering rich, personalized data services that build brand loyalty with their customers.
T-Mobile has been a Bytemobile customer since 2002. Under a group supply agreement, T-Mobile International selected Bytemobiles Unison Mobile Internet Platform as the consolidation node for its Mobile Internet Gateway (MIG). Bytemobile solutions on the Unison platform are deployed at T-Mobile operating companies in Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, the Netherlands, and the UK. Bytemobile says it has selected the F5 VIPRION system to meet the scalability and availability requirements of the Unison platform at these T-Mobile sites.
