The particulars of Google Glass are slowly being revealed via the medium of its select beta testers.
Google has announced that a voice command function will go live in the next few days so Glass users devoid of shame can now speak out loud to control their device. “Ok glass, read aloud” would enable users to read a text, for example, in the spirit of #notouching.
“Ok glass, Google…” will enable users to search for something, including standard questions like “What time is it in…”. They can then tap, scroll, zoom, pan and click using the touchpad mounted on the Glass frame.
No typing or Flash
Google highlights that its search engine will recognise Glass as a mobile device and serve mobile-optimised websites. “This is expected, and frankly, pretty nice of them,” so says the Help Centre. Glass users wont yet be able to sign in to websites or complete other online forms as it is not capable of typing. “Many” Youtube videos – including those requiring Flash – will not play on Glass either.
Beta users will also be able to message and call all of their Gmail contacts rather than just the list of the contacts set up on the MyGlass site or Android app.
