Layar Creates AR Womens Glossy

Augmented Reality (AR) platform Layar has teamed up with Dutch womens glossy magazine LINDA to create an augmented magazine.

This months edition of LINDA features more than 50 pages that have additional digital content available by tapping digital buttons which appear when looking at the magazine through the Layar AR app. In total, 120 digital buttons are placed throughout the magazine linking to specific websites, videos, app stores and phone numbers.

Content includes a behind-the-scenes video of the cover photoshoot, one-click navigation to sites selling the clothes featured in the articles, and the ability to book a test-drive for advertised cars.

Jildou van der Bijl, co-editor-in-chief of LINDA magazine, says: “It is part of LINDAs DNA to constantly look for new ways to innovate. Now with Layar its possible for the first time to make a real connection between print and digital without the ugly QR-codes in your magazine. Layar adds an extra layer with groundbreaking opportunities for readers and advertisers bringing the magazine alive. Its so much fun to see a pair of wonderful shoes in your favourite magazine and be able to buy them by pressing a button on your phone.”

“We are thrilled LINDA wanted to work with us and use Layar,” said Claire Boonstra, Layars co-founder. “Not just because it is a great magazine, but it proves what we said with the launch of Layar Vision; this is a utility that generates value for brands, retailers and online merchants by making physical items interactive.”

Layar has also announced that two it has partnered with two other brands this month – US DIY magazine MAKE has also used the digital buttons approach in its print title, while the World Wildlife Fund is using AR to engage audiences with an AR postcard.

The consumer Layar app is available from Apples App Store and the Android Market.
