MEM 2010 Heads for London

The Mobile Entertainment Forum is staging the 10th annual MEM conference from 22 – 23 June at the Victoria Park Plaza Hotel, London.

The MEF notes that the event comes at a time when music distribution has changed irreversibly, with the music industry nurturing fan loyalty, talent, and revenue models in new ways, adapting to meet new opportunities in content platform delivery, cloud-based services, and DRM. Online streaming and music community social networks operate alongside subscription business models integrated into operator or device value added services, with real up-sell opportunities.

Spotify recently stated that it had 325,000 paying customers in Europe and is planning to launch into the US market in 3Q10. Its recently-announced partnership with social device manufacturer INQ also promises new uptake potential, whilst music distributor, Omnifone, operating under a subscription model, has partnered successfully with mobile operators to access numerous end-users looking to devices for new content enjoyment. 24-7 Entertainment has added 30,000+ record labels, including Sony Music, to its client list. Other synergies between evolving music social communities and cloud based streaming services, such as Dada.net, are apparent, the MEF says.

The event aims to keep delegates abreast of these new models and their compatibility to different markets and to new partnership opportunities. It will feature a dsicussion entitled: ‘Mobile Music: What Happens Next’? The debate will be moderated by MEF N. Americas Emeritus Chair, Ralph Simon, with C-level contributions from Spotify, Omnifone, Dada.net and Sony Music Entertainment.

The event will also examine whether major rights holders can maintain their position in a digitally mobile market; whether access models will supercede traditional ownership for mobile music consumption; and what impact mobile connected devices will have on the music industry when moving towards a fully integrated approach to multiplatform delivery?
