Metaio has launched what it says is the first commercially available cross-platform tool for creating AR apps. Announced at its annual InsideAR technology conference, the company says this is a scalable and sustainable AR production method.
It includes a software development kit with more than 500 technology combinations, an improved desktop publishing tool so non-programmers can create and run AR experiences, as well as integration of camera technologies like continuous visual search and simultaneous location and mapping.
It also unveiled an outdoor visualisation of the famous Glockenspiel on the Marienplatz in Munich, which fuses GPS and 3D tracking, to show a real-time overlay demo.
“We’re bringing the vision of the Augmented City to reality,” said Thomas Alt, CEO and Co-Founder of Metaio. “We want to connect every real-world object to the internet through our technology, and we can do it.”
