Microsoft has launched a competition with Stonewash, a digital publishing company, to offer five publishers the opportunity to create a free Windows 8 magazine app.
The pair have created a magazine app creation platform so developers can create and monetise their publications on the Windows OS. The chosen publishers will be also be able to access Microsofts advertising platform, incorporating the ability to stream ads in apps, to help them monetise their product.
“We have invested in developing for Windows 8 because to us, the size of potential audience has certain inevitability,” said Daniel Sharp, co-founder of Stonewash. “The intention of this initiative is to bring more magazines to the Windows 8 platform, we have been launching Windows 8 apps for publishers since July last year and have seen first-hand that the audience growth potential is huge.”
