Mike Short Recognised in Queens Honours List

Mainstay of the mobile industry Mike Short was awarded a CBE in the Queens annual Birthday Honours list last week. Recognised for his 37-year career in electronics and telecommunications, Dr Short is currently IET president and VP of Telefónica Europe.

Commenting on the accolade, he said: “It is a great honour to receive this personally for my contribution to the mobile industry even though many others have played such a great role.

“I am particularly pleased that it helps highlight how much mobile innovation and investment has done for society, skills and services. This is a truly great year to receive my medal after 25 years in the mobile industry and only 20 years since the first digital mobile phone was approved for connection to mobile networks.”

Dr Short has worked for Phillips, Landis & Gyr, and BT. He is also a former chairman of the Global GSM Association and the UK Mobile Data Association, and has served on a variety of boards and government task forces.

Hes spoken to Mobile Marketing on a number of topics and articles, so we would like to congratulate him on his achievement.
