Nokia has cut the price of its Lumia 900 handset by half in the US. The Windows Phone-powered device was launched at $99.99, but is now available for $49.99 with a two year contract through operator AT&T.
The Windows Phone-powered handset launched in April 2012 – only three months ago.
Despite Nokia director of communications Keith Nowaks insistence that the cut is “part of our ongoing lifecycle management”, its hard not to see the move as a result of the Lumias difficulties in the crowded smartphone market. The handset has suffered slow sales and it doesnt seem coincidental that the price cut follows Microsofts announcement that phones currently running Window Phones 7 – including the Lumia – wouldnt be able to upgrade to Windows Phone 8 after it launches.
