PayPals Here service, which enables small businesses to process mobile payments, has been given a huge boost, as AT&Ts 1800 shops in the US are now selling the dongle for $15, which will be returned when the user signs up for a PayPal Here account.
Business owners can take card payments using the dongle, attached to their smartphone, along with an app.
The announcement came as part of its Q3 results, which saw its customers make 589m transactions – 6.4m payments every day
“Take a moment to remember where you were in 2002 and to think about how much of your life has moved online in just a decade,” said David Marcus, president of PayPal, referring to the recent 10th anniversary of eBays acquisition of the payments firm.
“However, it’s easy to see that this transformation we are all living is not yet complete. PayPal will be at the forefront of continuing to drive this transformation. Our goal will be give you smarter, safer and better ways to get the things you want whether you are online, on a mobile device or in-person at a store.”
PayPal has also partnered with MoneyGram to enable its users to withdraw and deposit out of their PayPal account at a number of MoneyGram’s 284,000 global locations. The service will be piloted in early 2013 in the US.
