Samsung Electronics has licensed Red Bend Software’s full suite of Mobile Software Management (MSM) solutions, including vRapid Mobile for software management and firmware over-the-air updating (FOTA) and vDirect Mobile for device management.
The move means that 10 of the world’s top handset manufacturers now use Red Bend’s MSM solutions to improve the mobile user experience with new features and applications.
The Red Bend-enabled handsets from Samsung include a range of Android phones, as well as Samsungs own platforms. Models include the Samsung Infuse 4G sold by AT&T; the Samsung Epic 4G sold by Sprint; and the Samsung Galaxy S and Galaxy S II models sold by operators in more than 100 countries. Samsung also has deployed Red Bend’s software in its popular Galaxy Tab line of tablets.
“Samsung has become the choice for so many mobile consumers because of the compelling design, quality, performance and features of its smartphones and tablets,” says Red Bend CEO, Yoram Salinger. “We are proud that Samsung relies on Red Bend’s Mobile Software Management solutions to enhance consumer satisfaction by providing software over-the-air updates to its innovative, application-rich mobile devices.”
Adam Leach, practice leader of Ovum’s devices practice, says that Red Bend’s MSM solutions have become the “de facto standard” for updating mobile software over the air. “As mobile phones become more feature-rich and as mobile consumers want to personalise their devices with applications and services, Samsung and other leading manufacturers are making mobile software management an integral part of their product offering,” says Leach.
Red Bend’s software has shipped in more than 1bn mobile phones and connected devices. The company says its award-winning vRapid Mobile, vDirect Mobile and VLX software products enable more than 80 device manufacturers, mobile operators, semiconductor vendors and automotive companies worldwide to increase revenues, reduce costs and achieve faster time to market by remotely managing firmware, applications and mobile devices over the air.
