Syniverse Reports Messaging Growth

Moving an average of almost 1.3 billion messages per day in the fourth quarter of 2009, Syniverse Technologies says it continues to see significant growth of the companys application-to-person (A2P) and peer-to-peer (P2P) message delivery across its network.
According to Syniverse CEO Tony Holcombe, the company has seen organic growth in SMS, MMS Mobile Enterprise Services (MES) messaging solutions. MES provides businesses with a way to send time- and event-based text messages to their employees, customers and partners around the globe.
As expected, we saw an uptick of activity around the holidays, says Holcombe. Syniverse hit a new record when we delivered 1.9 billion SMS messages on Christmas Day 2009, up 52% from 1.2 billion just the year before. And on Halloween, Syniverse achieved a new MMS record with the delivery of 21.2 million messages, up 173 percent from 2008.
The Syniverse MMS Interworking Gateway platform realized its most significant rise in traffic volume during the fourth quarter 2009, with a 170 percent increase on the previous year. The daily average of MMS messages delivered by Syniverse in 2009 exceeded the previous years record by more 128%.
MES continues to perform strongly for Syniverse, as more consumers show an interest in A2P applications, such as mobile banking. In the last quarter of 2009, Syniverse saw a 76% increase in the total number of enterprise messages delivered year-on-year. Today, Syniverses growing global mobile banking and financial services customer base includes six of the top 10 US banking brands, two of the top five credit card issuers and two of the top three US-based global airline carriers. Additionally, two of the top three banking institutions in India also rely on Syniverse to power their mobile banking and alerting services.
A lifestyle that fully incorporates mobile messaging is here to stay, and Syniverse will continue to provide the support and technology needed to ensure reliable message delivery for everyone, says Holcombe.
