The London Science Museum has launched an Augmented Reality app. James May Science Stories sees the television presenter acting as a virtual tour guide, talking visitors through the museums Making of the Modern World exhibition.
Developed by DigiCave, using Qualcomm’s Vuforia platform, uses markers on plinths next to key exhibits – including the Model T Ford, the Rolls Royce Merlin engine, and the worlds first X-Ray machine – to trigger Augmented Reality content. For those unable to make it to the museum can print out the markers to access the content at home.
“Creating this next generation experience has given us the opportunity to push what was possible, both in terms of graphical quality and core functionality,” says Callum Reid, CEO and founder of Digicave. “Its great to mix the wow factor of augmented reality with a bit of genuine functionality. We hope that this AR experience really truly augments peoples enjoyment and engagement with the science museums exhibits.”
The app is available on iOS and Android, for the price of £1.99.
