The Weather Channel has revealed that more than a quarter of its 7.3m unique users in the month of May accessed the company’s online content via mobile devices. 1.9m unique users, representing 26 per cent of the total for the month, accessed Weather Channel content via mobile devices, across iPhone, Android, iPad and Windows Phone apps and the mobile web.
The Android app was used by 286,506 active unique users, visiting 11.9m pages. The iPhone app was used by 267,933 active unique users, visiting 11.3m pages. The Windows Phone app was used by an estimated 94,000 active unique users, visiting 3.8m pages (Unique users can;t be measured on the Windows Phone app so The Weather Channel divided the number of page views by the avergae number of page views per unique user – 41 – on its Android app.) The iPad app was used by 90,798 active unique users, visiting 4.7m pages. And the mobile web was used by 1,145,413 active unique users, visiting 33.2m pages.
The Weather Channel is launching as a pre-loaded app on all Nokia Window’s phones globally in July. Given this, and the Channel’s current organic growth, it says it expects to have more than 4m active monthly uniques on mobile devices in the UK before the end of the year.
