Vimeo Launches iOS App

YouTube rival Vimeo has launches its first mobile app on the iOS platform. The app, which is optimised for iPhone, gives you full access to the video sites viewing and commenting features, as well as a mobile video editor.

The popular video site, which launched in 2004, has a creative focus and is meant for home-made, non-commercial video projects. The app allows users to shoot, edit, and upload their videos to the site.

The iPhone app offers a timeline-based editing environment which allows users to combine, trim, and place clips in a sequence, as well as add transitions, titles, and special effects. Users can also add music and other recordings to soundtrack their movies.

Finished clips can then be saved to the iPhones Camera Roll.

Vimeo says that the app also offers “the whole Vimeo experience” on the mobile device. Users can watch videos from the site, and upload videos from the iPhone straight to the site. You can also download your videos that are hosted on the site into your iPhones Camera Roll.

The app also lets you view stats on your videos – such as daily plays and comments from other users.

Vimeo says that will work on iPad and Android versions of the app when it is satisfied that the iPhone version is stable and fully featured.

Vimeo for iPhone is free, and can be downloaded from the Apple App Store
