Windows Phone 8 might have only launched five months ago, but it appears Microsoft is already looking ahead to its next platform, and sunsetting the OS.
Thats according to a support document on Microsofts site, as spotted by Engadget, which says it will withdraw support for both Windows Phone 8 and 7.8 products in the second half of 2014 – in August and September, respectively.
This is in line with the companys policy of a 18-month support cycle of its software releases, and the transparency is welcome – especially as reports suggest WP8 will be upgradeable to the next version of Microsofts OS, an option that wasnt available to WP7 users – but its still strange to have such a set date for, essentially, the end of the platforms lifecycle while it is still settling down and trying to find its audience.
