Would You Pay £7k for a Smartphone?

Vertu has launched its latest luxury mobile handset, the Vertu Ti, retailing from £6,700 for the basic model.

The Ti is Vertus first Android handset, running on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), and arguably its first modern smartphone. Previous touchscreen handsets have run on the now-defunct Symbian OS provided by Nokia, which owned the company until selling it last year.

The device has a 3.7” screen, and is powered by a 1.7GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor. It also has 64GB of internal storage, and is NFC-enabled. All of which is roughly in line with the average mid-range Android smartphone.

The price tag is largely down to the materials the hand-made phone is made out of, which includes titanium and sapphires. The case of the basic £6,700 edition features a black leather trim, with the range including increasingly expensive alternatives all way up to the red gold handset, which costs £13,900.
