Google Working on In-ear Wearable?

Google Glass earAfter production of Google Glass was shut down last January, the general assumption was that Glass would be replaced with a newer, shinier pair of smart glasses. However, according to Wareable, Googles next wearable effort might not be focused on the users eyes at all, but their ears.

Googles Project Aura – the division set up to work on Glass successor and other wearable products – is reportedly working on an in-ear wearable. The news comes from Adam Mathes, EVP of business development at United Sciences, a company which specialises in 3D scans of the ear, used to better fit devices like hearing aids, which is working with Google on the device.

It appears the wearable will work alongside Glass, probably a sign that theres a next-gen model of the smart glasses on their way. If theres no way to use it as a standalone device, however, a Glass requirement could severely limit its potential audience.

Wareable also mentions another two Project Aura devices we could see in 2016, which share the same focus on audio – a project involving bone conduction speaker technology, and a sports device for fitness tracking.
